Calculators, receipts and guides that go with this estimate.
Junk removal customers want one thing from an estimate: to know roughly what this pile is going to cost before your truck shows up. Most outfits price by volume, how much of the truck the load fills, because that ties directly to dump fees and time. Your estimate should translate the customer's description or photos into a fraction of a load and then add the items that cost extra no matter how small they are: refrigerators and freezers with refrigerant, mattresses, tires, electronics and very heavy items like pianos or hot tubs. Be upfront that the final price is confirmed on site, because a 'few boxes in the garage' is rarely just a few boxes. Listing what you can't take, like paint and chemicals, prevents an awkward conversation in the driveway.
Why can't you give me an exact price from photos?
Photos don't show depth or what's hidden behind the front of the pile. Most junk removal companies give a range or a load estimate from photos and confirm the exact price on site before loading anything, so the customer can say no without paying.
Why do refrigerators and mattresses cost extra?
Appliances with refrigerant must be handled by certified recyclers, and many facilities charge per mattress or per tire. Those fees apply even if the item takes little space, so they belong on separate lines.
Can you take paint, chemicals or batteries?
Most junk haulers can't legally dispose of hazardous waste with regular loads. List these as excluded and point the customer to their local hazardous waste drop-off. Rules vary by city and state.
