Calculators, receipts and guides that go with this estimate.
Electrical estimates need to be precise because safety, code and inspections are part of the price. Customers usually call with a goal, such as adding outlets, installing lights or an EV charger, or upgrading an old panel, and the estimate should translate that into circuits, devices and materials. Separate the service call, each circuit or device type and any panel or service work. For older homes, mention conditions that may require upgrades, like ungrounded outlets or a panel without capacity for new circuits. Fishing wire through finished walls is slower than open framing, and patching drywall is often excluded. Permits and inspections are common for new circuits and panels. Licensing rules for electrical work vary by state; check yours.
Do I need a permit to add an outlet?
Many jurisdictions require permits for new circuits and some for added outlets. Rules vary by city and state, so check locally.
Why does an EV charger need a new circuit?
Level 2 chargers draw a lot of power for long periods and usually need a dedicated 240V circuit sized to the charger. Panel capacity may limit options.
Will the electrician repair the drywall?
Often not. Electricians make small openings to run wire and typically leave patching to the customer or another trade unless it's included.
