Handyman estimates are usually a list of small jobs, and customers like seeing each one priced on its own line. That clarity makes it easy to drop a task, add one or approve the whole list. Price by task when you know how long it takes (mounting a TV, swapping a faucet, patching a hole) and by the hour when it's open-ended, like assembling furniture or fixing whatever's wrong with a sticking door. A minimum charge or trip fee covers travel on small visits. Be clear about materials: bought by you and billed, or supplied by the customer. Many states limit what handymen can do without a contractor's license, especially electrical, plumbing and larger projects, so check your state's rules and keep the scope within them.
Should a handyman charge per hour or per job?
Both are common. Flat prices per task are easier for customers to accept; hourly works for jobs with unknowns. Many handymen combine them on one estimate.
Can a handyman do electrical or plumbing work?
It depends on the state and the size of the job. Many states require licenses for most electrical and plumbing work and limit the dollar value of unlicensed jobs. Check your state's rules.
What is a trip charge?
A fee that covers travel and setup for small visits. Some handymen waive it when the job is above a minimum.
