Estimates, receipts and guides that go with this invoice.
Electrical invoices need to be precise, because the customer, an inspector or a future buyer of the house may read them later. Put your license number near your business details if your state requires it. List each device installed, like GFCI outlets, switches, fixtures or a new breaker, with a quantity, and describe new circuits by amperage and what they feed, such as a 20A circuit for the garage. If you bill by the hour, separate journeyman and apprentice time when the rates differ. Permit and inspection fees go on their own line, and it's worth noting the permit number. When the work involves the panel, mention any circuits you labeled or changed. A clear invoice also makes it easy for the homeowner to show what was done and when.
Do I need to put my license number on an electrical invoice?
Many states require licensed electricians to show their license number on contracts, ads or invoices. Rules differ, so check your state's rules and add it if in doubt; it also reassures customers.
Should I bill fixtures the customer bought themselves?
Only bill the installation labor. Note in the line description that the fixture was customer-supplied, so it's clear you aren't responsible for the product itself.
How do I bill a job that failed inspection the first time?
Follow what your agreement says. Corrections for your own work are usually on you; changes the inspector required because of existing wiring can be billed as an additional line with a short explanation.
