Estimates, receipts and guides that go with this invoice.
Handyman jobs are usually a list of small tasks done in one visit, which makes the invoice the only place the customer sees everything that got done. Write each task on its own line, like hanging a TV, fixing a door that sticks or patching drywall, instead of a single line that says "repairs". If you bill by the hour, show the minimum charge or first hour and then the extra hours, so the customer can see how the total adds up. Materials you picked up, such as anchors, caulk or a new faucet, belong on a separate line; keep the store receipt in case anyone asks. If a second trip was needed, note why.
Should a handyman invoice show hours or a flat price?
Either works, as long as it matches what you quoted. Flat prices per task are easy for customers to accept; hourly billing should show the hours so the total can be checked.
Can I mark up materials on a handyman invoice?
Many handymen add a markup or handling fee to cover the time spent buying and transporting materials. Agree on it beforehand and show materials as a separate line.
Do I charge for the trip to the hardware store?
If it was part of the job, it's work time. Some handymen bill it as labor, others include it in a materials handling fee. Whatever you do, keep it consistent with what you told the customer.
